Glorious Godwick
A couple of weeks ago we returned to Godwick Great Barn for the first time in a long time. It was wonderful to be back! The reason for this was being asked to cater for C & D’s big day. From our initial meeting and tasting with these guys we knew what a special day they had planned.
On Friday I took Tracy along with me to set up at the barn. C & D opted for long, bare tables with burgundy napkins tied in the fashionable knot. Alongside this we laid our glassware and cutlery. The tables were finished with beautiful tall flower arrangements by Charlotte Staff Flowers.
An outdoor barrel bar supplied by Array wedding and event hire was set up under a marquee outside for the drinks reception. This looked lovely with the gorgeous view of the Godwick ruins.
So here’s how Saturday ran. Ryan and myself arrived to prep and set up the drinks reception. The happy couple got married in a nearby church. As guests started to arrive we greeted them with a bar full of beautiful Adnams Rosè fizz, white fizz, and beers. These were accompanied by canapés. These were our veggie favourite, tomato, onion and basil crostinis. Also there were cream cheese and parma ham crostinis, mushroom arancini’s, Tracy’s famous cheese straws and honey mustard sausages. As always we could barely get outside the door before these were swept from our canapé boards!
While we were keeping everyone fed and watered, Arienne Jonas was busy snapping away catching memories for everyone. What a lovely fun ball of energy she is! It was our first time working with Arienne and we hope it won’t be our last!
Once everyone was seated for the wedding breakfast we were ready to serve. This was a choice of fillet steak with dauphinoise potatoes in red wine jus or our very popular chicken with sage and onion mash in a creamy white wine sauce. The bride was a vegetarian and opted for our vegetable moussaka with a Jerusalem salad for herself and a few other veggie guests. As we went to clear away we had positive comments and clean plates everywhere, which is always one of the best parts of our day.
We made sure waters and wines were topped up and then it was time for desserts. Usually guests have a choice of two, but C & D were so undecided at the taster they ended up with three! These are our three most popular desserts by far. Chocolate brownie, salted caramel cheesecake and Eton mess. These went down so well we even had two people ask for seconds so they could try a different one too!
After clearing away desserts and collecting as much excess tableware as we could we opened the tea and coffee station and set to work on the masses of washing up to be done. From our side, that was it from us. Godwick run their own bar and C & D hired a pizza van for their evening food so for once we got a fairly early night!
It was lovely to be back at Godwick and we were very well looked after by Hannah, Jenny and their colleagues. We hope they enjoyed having us as much as we enjoyed being there.
We had a great day and we thank C & D for choosing and trusting us for their big day.
Wishing you both all the love and happiness in your future life as Mr and Mrs.
