Service with a secret.

We had the BEST time a few weeks ago at the wedding of A & D at the Red Barn. A few weeks before the wedding A’s mother contacted us about a big surprise she had booked for the couple. When we heard what it was we were all for it! Plans were put into place and A & D would be none the wiser until meal time…

So let’s start from the beginning as usual. We laid the tables and set up the bar earlier in the week. A & D had chosen gorgeous burnt orange for their napkins, folded into pockets for the cutlery. Tables were finished with centre pieces from Lou Bear Events. I returned to the barn on Friday to catch up with the couple regarding timings etc and also to have a sneaky introduction and chat with A’s mum!

On the big day, as everyone was seated and D was waiting for his bride at the front of the aisle, we were in the kitchen meeting two very special waiters that were helping us out for the day.

When the ceremony was finished and guests started to mingle we were ready with trays full of Porn Star Martinis, Prosecco and a wheel barrow full of beer. Ourselves and our “extra” staff made sure everyone was looked after and happy in their time before being seated.

Wedding breakfast was a casual affair with our BBQ sharing platters of sausages, handmade burgers, chicken drumsticks and BBQ pulled pork. To go with this A & D had chosen brioche buns, corn on the cob, rainbow salad, buttery new potatoes and homemade slaw. While we concentrated on getting the food out to guests our extra staff made sure everyone was topped up with wine and water.

Once the tables were cleared from mains one of our extras was just making sure everybody had the correct cutlery for their dessert when suddenly, right infront of the bride and groom, he tripped. Spoons went everywhere, he was on the floor. People shot up from their seats to help and make sure he was ok. As he was getting to his feet he happened to stumble upon a microphone which a sound man had strategically placed ready for the speeches.

Before we knew it those two “extra” waiters, dressed the same as us, working hard all day alongside us, hiding in plain sight, burst into song and the whole room went wild! What a way to get a party started! These guys were fantastic! They had acted all day in a different accent and completely made up characters, fooling everyone, none more than the bride herself!

We watched as these two professionals from The Singing Waiter Masters entertained everyone for around half an hour. By the end of it people were standing on chairs, waving napkins over their heads and singing along at the top of their lungs. The whole time A & D were astounded at not having any idea this was going to happen and also still confused over who booked them!

It was fantastic to see and so fun to be a part of. Not only were the guys fabulous but they were also a great help and pulled their weight enough to make everyone fall for the fact they were just one of us.

So eventually it was back to normality and we went on to serve desserts. This was our popular salted caramel cheesecake with pretzels and popcorn. For the veggies and vegans it was a dark fruit salad with raspberry coulis.

As the day turned to evening we were busy behind the bar keeping everyone’s spirits as high as the singing waiters had got them and the party really started. A & D had an incredible choice of music all day and all night and it certainly kept everyone on the dance floor!

The evening food of choice was mini fish and chips served in newspaper style chip cones. This was accompanied by a table full of wedding cake.

We had so much fun at this wedding. Not only because of the singing waiters but also because A & D were such lovely clients to work for from the start. There are some weddings and couples that stay with you for years to come and this is certainly one of them.

Wishing them both all the best in their future life together.
