Fun in the Fens.

Our next event this season took us to the Fens for the wedding reception of L & G.

We arrived to set up on Friday to a very warm welcome from L & G and their lovely parents and siblings. At a bit of a loose end themselves they all offered to help and so it was all hands on deck to lay the tables. The venue had its own bar and glassware so all that was needed from us for the tables this week was cutlery and napkins.

At 8am on the morning of the wedding the family were back to the venue to pop up a small marquee for us to use and by 10.30 they had also helped us unload and get the kitchen equipment ready to go. They really were a helpful bunch!

L & G married a few villages away in church. Then along with a large majority of their guests, arrived at their reception in a stunning red Route Master bus.

Soon after everyone arrived it was time for them to be seated. A three course wedding breakfast was this weeks offering.

Starters were a choice of Pork Belly bites on a bed of rocket and cucumber with apple sauce and a splatter of honey soy. The second choice was a lovely fresh Caprese salad with balsamic glaze and basil.

For main course, guests were able to choose between our wedding favourite, Crispy skin on chicken breast on a sage and onion mash, with petit pois a la Francais and a beautiful creamy white wine sauce, or a classic vegetable wellington with dauphinoise potatoes, tender stem and jus.

We had a special request from the groom for dessert and, being a chef himself, we needed to get this one just right! Alongside our ever popular salted caramel cheesecake, G asked us for his all time favourite. Banoffee Pie! It went down a storm and there wasn’t a crumb left on anyones plate!

In fact there wasn’t a crumb left on many plates throughout all three courses! Complements were being sent back to the kitchen on every course and the family and friends couldn’t have been happier.

In the evening, guests were served slow roasted hog roast rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. A perfect, timeless option for night time at a wedding.

Catering for a chef is always nerve wracking but I think L & G will agree that we smashed it once again!

Wishing L & G all the best in their future married life together and another big thank you to their lovely helpful family!
