Where do we start. What an amazing day. This weekend we catered for the wedding reception of C & M. I can’t express what a joy it was to work for these guys. From meeting them at their taster to the big day itself they have been fantastic. As have their wonderful family.
From a farming background and as self confessed foodies, C & M knew exactly what they were looking for. They wanted good quality meat and good quality veg. At the taster we chatted and laughed for hours.
Fast forward to the run up to the event itself. We spent a long hot day over at the site on Friday prepping and being very well looked after by all the family. A team of Dad, Groom and Best Man soon helped to rectify a problem with wonky cookers, and a very long potato slicing job was gratefully helped by Mum’s kitchen gadgets! “Grumpy Grandad” as he introduced himself, kept Sophie amused several times including at the wedding where they enjoyed laughing and checking up on each other throughout the day.
Saturday came, along with the sun for one of our hottest ever catering events. Everyone was kept watered with Pimms, Beer, Prosecco and soft drinks by front of house staff, while Ryan and his kitchen team prepared hearty canapés. These included honey mustard sausages and beef in Yorkshire puddings. Canapés and drinks were served on the lawn while a saxophonist played infront of a view across the fields of Ely Cathedral.
Then it was time to feed a community of farmers. Always a daunting task!
C & M opted for Pork Belly with apple sauce to start, with a caprese salad for the vegetarians. This was followed by Sirloin Steak with Dauphinois potatoes and tender stem broccoli in a red wine jus. Vegetarians had a fresh mint, pea and truffle risotto. For dessert it was a race against time to get 100 cheesecakes to the tables before they collapsed infront of our eyes from the heat!
Its always nice to be complimented by farmers and we were certainly getting that from every angle which was great!
From here, we went back to bar service for the evening with a constant job of refilling water jugs! When an ice-cream van arrived for guests the ushers came straight to each and every member of our staff, offered and subsequently fetched 99’s with a flake all round. How lovely of them!
In terms of drinks C & M opted for a bespoke, pre-paid drinks package that was discussed between themselves and Ryan prior to the big day. This included some of their own favourite drinks that we don’t usually have on offer. The bar was busy all night as everyone partied into the early hours. Where the energy came from in that heat is beyond me!
In the midst of all the dancing it was soon time for evening food. After much deliberation C & M chose mini fish and chip cones. We supplied disposable cones for this but as an added personal touch ,they were collected previous to the wedding and wrapped in Farmers Weekly which looked great! The fish and chips went down a treat alongside a cheese table and wedding cake.
At 1am after a very long hot day it was wonderful to stand back for a minute and watch the smiling, loving faces all around the marquee having the BEST time. On heading over to say our goodbyes, being spun around the dance floor and hugged from all angles as a thank you for our hard work just proved once again what fun, amazing people we had the privilege to work for this weekend. One that will stay with us for a long time to come.
We truly wish you all the best C & M
